~ Thrifty hints from a housewife ~

Just a few hints that I thought might be useful. Some have been passed down to me, others I have learned through experience.

~ You can soak a new red shirt in cold water and salt for at least 30 minutes to prevent bleeding. In particular this has come in handy for me with shirts that have red and white together... (ie. Stripes, checks, etc.)

~ Dawn is a miraculous stain remover. I stopped buying expensive stain removers long ago. Simply lay out your clothes put a good amount of Dawn on the stain. Rub a couple of times in a circular motion with your fingers. Let sit until laundry time and wash as usual. (The longer the better.) So far I have seen it take out oil based lipstick, grass stain, and spagetti. :-)

~ Alcohol removes ink pen and permanent marker. Dab on and blot off. Repeat until clean.  Do Not rub- it will cause the ink to bleed.

~ Liquid laundry detergent makes a wonderful cleaning solution. Put about the amount you would use on a large amount of laundry in the bottom of a spray bottle and fill the rest with water..... You're ready to go.

~ Baby oil removes hair dye from skin. I usually put it on a cotton ball and rub the stained area. The sooner you do it- the better.

~ Mr. Clean magic erasers will take crayon off your walls.

~ Fabric softener is a great air freshener. Who needs Febreeze?! Just take your favorite scent and put your desired amount in a dense spraying spray bottle (ie. you want one that mists lightly- otherwise your things will be soaked,) and mist your air, furniture, bathrooms, etc.

~ A little bit of Ceyanne Pepper added to your lip gloss will give you that permanent pinky tinge that you want. Yes, it does tingle a bit- but beauty is pain. ;-) lol.

.......... I will be adding new posts to this label as I learn them or remember them. Feel free to add on to the list in comments! I am always looking for new cool ideas to try! :-)
